SO WHAT IS A CHAPANA?
Chapan is a traditional Uzbek robe. Previously, it was considered exclusively men's clothing, but in the modern world, women have also paid attention to the chapan. Externally, this is a robe of a simple cut with straight sleeves, without buttons or fasteners. However, the chapan has two belts in the chest area that can be tied. There are vertical slits on the sides of the hips so as not to hinder movement when walking. The robe is cut with an overlap, thanks to which the chapan will protect its owner from the piercing wind. For insulation, chapans usually have a lining of cotton wool or camel wool. All the fabric of the chapan is carefully hand-sewn by Uzbek craftswomen. In Uzbekistan, chapans usually have texts with good wishes to the owner. Chapans can be luxurious or created for everyday life. Luxurious or festive chapans are made of the finest silk adras or of chic, iridescent scarlet bakhmal (Uzbek velvet); the lining is also tastefully selected from beautiful fabric. The edges are decorated with hand-woven braid with silk tassels. Festive chapans are decorated with hand embroidery with gold thread and are considered especially chic. In Uzbekistan, this is a gift to the highest and most honored guest. 👳🏼♀️🤴
Everyday chapans use a simpler fabric - velor or cotton adras, and the lining is made of chintz.
In recent years, chapans have been in trend - this type of fashion has experienced a rebirth, especially in Uzbekistan. It is already considered not only an element of traditional national clothing, but also a fashionable thing.
Today, chapans are becoming increasingly popular not only in Uzbekistan, but throughout the world. Men and women wear them as outerwear, combining them with everyday clothes. The best and most famous Uzbek designers create and decorate chapans: long and short, in a range of the most vibrant and varied colors. Our vintage recycled chapans can be worn as coats or jackets outside the home, or as a luxurious robe or robe to add a boho touch to your personal style.
